Be Pro In Fishing

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

My pals have at all times been questioning on what’s my magic formula to my fishing expertise. Well in fact, I don’t really know how to answer their question since it has become my hobby. Ever since I was 4 years old, I already began going with my dad for fishing. My dad taught me how to start fishing and what to do to get fish hooked, so to speak. Hence, starting to fish at an early age might be the secret to my fishing skills.

I found that the main problem to most of my friends that they don’t even know the basics of fishing. And, this is because their father didn’t initiate their training on how to fish when they were young. I noticed my dad did something different while teaching us fishing that made the difference.

So here are a few ways on how to teach your child fishing.

1. First, you must tag your kids along on the fishing boat while they are young. Yet make sure that they’re safe and then answer all their curiosities. Never forget that you are there because you will teaching your kids how to fish. So, encourage them.

2. Bring your kids to an area where catching lots of fishes will be easy for them. You should select a place where your kid can get couple of fishes within 10 to 12 minutes because small child’s patience is very short. Keep in mind that what matters to the kids is not the appearance of the place but the amount of fish they’re going to catch.

3. Praise your kids for each fish they will catch. You really have to make a big deal out of it by perhaps taking a photo or video while they’re fishing. Then with the use of a table knife, teach your kids on how to clean the fish. Once your kid sees the connection from catching to cleaning to cooking, he will be hooked with fishing. Youngsters must definitely feel the enthusiasm of fishing.

4. Whenever your kids are already knowledgeable enough about fishing, bring them with you when you head for fishing. Teach him the importance of patience in fishing. Involve them in cleaning and cutting of fishes.

5. It certainly is so difficult to go fishing during the summer. Never take your kids to fishing if it’s summer particularly when the weather is too hot and there is no wind. Fishing on summer days would certainly erase the enjoyment in fishing and it’s never the time for you to bring your kids with you. Therefore, begin teaching your kids on how to fish when the weather is somewhat cold and comfy and then slowly bring them during a challenging weather similar to summer or super cold weather.

6. As soon as your kids are already experienced with fishing, give them their own hats, rod and reel, and also their own tackle box.

You must train your kids about fishing. They will simply acquire the skills on fishing by following you and so tag them along with you whenever you can.

How To Set Up A Fish Aquarium

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

After you have decided on the kind of fish aquarium you require for your fishes, the next question you want to address is what kind of fishes you need to keep within the fish tank. Different people have various preference for the type of fishes they like to keep as pets. Some like saltwater fishes and some prefer freshwater fishes. The thing to note is each species has different demands on the type of aquarium and accessories needed to keep them happy and alive.

Should you be getting any goldfish tank, then you may wish to know that a large tank is generally recommended than a fish bowl. Goldfish can grow up to about palm size large, so you may want to make room for the goldfish and equip it with adequate filters and pump. You will find a few kinds of goldfish you can keep like oranda, ranchu and lionhead in the goldfish tank.

A angelfish aquarium is quite different from the others. You’ve to take note these tropical fishes require at least a 15 and above gallon tank. They have round, laterally pressed bodies, elongated dorsal and they need a great filter and heating system during winter. Angelfish find it a little challenging living with smaller fishes. They will eat them and bite the small fishes when they can. They are also very territorial and will try and kill each other if they dont have sufficient space.

When preparing a guppies fish tank, you don’t need a filter or a pump. Guppies are very tough and hardy and can endure various conditions like dirty water and changes in water temperature. But don’t let in cold air and freeze the water because guppies are still considered tropical fishes and you probably require a heater during winter.

With any kind of fish tank set up, you should have the aquarium set up with water and the filter running for a week prior to putting in any fish. If you’ve just bought the fish from the fish supplies store, try and put in the bag with the fish into the tank of water for at least half an hour. Water from the fish supply store may be different from the water at house. Let the fish get used to the water temperature to minimise any shock to the fish.

Eye Popping Exhibits At Sydney Aquarium

Monday, September 27th, 2010

Sydney aquarium is one of the most popular found throughout world and has more than 6,000 fish and 650 species. Most of the exhibits feature animals and plants from Australia. It is found along Darling Harbor in Sydney. Some of the most famous exhibits include a glass tunnel with sharks and other fish swimming above the visitors. It also has an area that has recreated the Great Barrier Reef.

The Sydney Aquarium has several different display sections that include the southern rivers, northern rivers, mermaid lagoon, southern ocean and northern ocean. The southern rivers area contains the Murray-Darling river system and platypus habitat. The northern rivers contain barramundi and saltwater crocodile. The mermaid lagoon has the Dugong exhibit and the southern ocean contains Sydney harbor, open ocean aquarium and the little penguin’s habitat. The northern ocean contains the Great Barrier Reef oceanarium.

The entire aquarium was built to resemble a large wave as Darling Harbour has a distinct maritime flavour. It took close to 2 years to build. The aquarium brings visitors through exhibits that display the ecosystems and waterways of Australia. The unique aquatic environments make for some complex and fascinating exhibits.

The floating oceanariums are quite impressive and are some of the largest found in the world. It is here that the seal sanctuary as well as the open ocean exhibits are found. These oceanariums were built with tunnels underneath them so it is possible to walk through and watch the fish above you. One of the highlights of the open ocean exhibit is the many sharks. This is the largest collection of captive sharks found in the world.

The seal sanctuary was opened in 1991 and was completely upgraded in 2003. It contains seals from New Zealand, Australia and the subantarctic. It is possible to see the seals from under the water as well as above. There are underwater tunnels as well as an open air deck. The Great Barrier Reef area contains a coral atoll, touch pool, coral cave and the Great Barrier Reef oceanarium. The oceanarium contains many millions of liters of water and thousands of animals.

Besides being a main tourist attraction the aquarium also has important research and conservation project. It supports research for the Australian Museum, Indiana University, La Trobe University, University of New South Wales, University of Sydney, New South Wales fisheries Research Institute and the Queensland National Parks and Wildlife Service. There are many animal holding facilities within the aquarium.

There is more to the aquarium than just exhibits as the aquarium participates in conservation and research projects with many other collaborators. Currently there are projects going on in conjunction with New South Wales fisheries Research Institute, University of New South Wales, Australian Museum, Queensland National Parks and Wildlife Service, University of Sydney, Indiana University and La Trobe University.

The dudong exhibits is quite a draw as this is only 1 of 5 such exhibits found in the world. The dudong is thought to be the origins of the mermaid legend and these were once found extensively throughout northern Australia. It is also possible to get up close and personal with the sharks by feeding them off of a glass bottom boat.

Doing Bass Fishing

Sunday, September 26th, 2010

Fishing for big bass with the use of a live bait is actually not really very common practice today as it was about 20 or 30 years ago. But the truth is, you can catch some big sows on live bait. Bass aren’t to particular when it comes to their diet, so there are a wide variety of baits you can use. The advantage of using a live bait in fishing is that nothing can nearly beat the use of anything than with the use of a live bait. The scent is also a very hard thing to imitate.

The best way of using a live bait is by using it in the most unobstructed way that one can possibly do. This then means that sinkers and bobbers are necessary and must be used to get away with the live bait. A light tackle must also be preferred to use for this very important function.

I like to use a medium action rod, with a spinning reel, wound with 8-10 pound mono test. In choosing a hook that will hold and support your bait, it is advisable that you use hooks that are nit bigger then #8 or #10; and a fine wire hook must also be paired with this so that your baits will live much longer. If you also needs a little more weight for your bait, try adding a split shot. A matchstick that will easily fit in the core and paired with a small cork that is as small as your thumb, and which will easily slide will already pass for a bobber, if you need to use one.

The technique of using live bait in fishing is entirely different than the ones being used for ordinary fishing when artificial baits are the ones that are used. Let us say, for example, you are catching crayfish. So, what you would naturally do is hook up the crayfish by using its tail and then cast him really slow from out of the water. And then, you allow the crayfish to swim into the bottom of the water. While your crayfish is swimming along the bottom of the water, a bass will surely come along and try to take your crayfish. As soon as this happens, flip open your bail and let the bass take your bait, the bass suspects nothing because he can’t feel any drag. Then he stops to swallow the crayfish, this is when you close the bail, reel in the slack and set the hook.

Another effective way of fishing is to use a live bait with back - trolling. When it is on its reverse motion, the motor will pull the boat instead of pushing it. So you can go slower which is what you want to do when fishing with live bait. When you throw your bait out there and start trolling, flip your bail and hold your line with your finger. Once you fill the fish take your bait, take your finger off the line and let the fish run with it. When the fish stops to take your bait, you immediately flip your bail; afterwards, you reel in the slack and then you set the hook. Some of my favorite baits to use are: crayfish, leeches, lamprey eels, and grubs. If the lake your fishing holds some trophy bass in it, try some bigger baits like bullheads that are 5 inches long, or bullfrogs, maybe some carp would do the trick. Some of these bigger bass are finicky eaters, however, you can fool them with live bait.

The Future Of Seas

Sunday, September 26th, 2010

The three-fourth is water, of your body and even of the earth. That which is in the earth holds a lot of potential for us. Imagine all future possibilities that could use the treasures of the oceans on a large scale to make us less dependent on resources found onshore.

There have been some developments. For example longest under-sea fibre optics cable connects countries from Germany to Japan and Australia. It carries 4000 encyclopaedia worth of information in a second!

Submersibles are the futuristic mode of transport that will take the explorers to the deepest parts of the oceans. These sea vessels require a mechanism to lose weight to rise and sink. But Deep Flight II that has been invented by Graham Hawkes stays the same weight and flies like an airplane.

The Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion ships run in water power. They take up warm water on the earth’s surface. And produce electricity!

The construction of the largest cruise liner is already going on. It is known as the Floating City. Almost 50,000 people can live here!

Also we should no longer dream of a future of living underwater. It is pretty real now to say the least. In the US, Aquarius is an undersea laboratory near the coast of Florida already.

Fish farming can be practice to experiment and breed newer and better varieties for fish. This would save us from the disasters of overfishing that is destroying our ecological systems and food chains. Also more fish can be reared rather than caught in the wild, by turning our fishermen into fish farmers if proper investment could be done in this field.

Yet the sea holds the answers to a variety of our problems only if we care to look into this partially exploited reserve. Here I’d like to quote a few verses from John Masefield’s (1878-1967), Sea Fever which was written in the year 1902: I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide - Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied.

Buying Cheap Fish Tanks: What You Should Know

Sunday, September 26th, 2010

It truly is interesting and enjoyable organizing and building your own cheap aquarium tank for your fishes. You will be like an architect styling houses, except that in this case, the house is for your fishes. To do up a fish tank or aquarium properly requires you to consider a few situations. These factors will influence the model of aquarium you are going to buy, the space you need to reserve, the resources and the types of material you will have to find and purchase.

The first thing to try and do is, exactly where do you want to set your aquarium. Determine whether the fish tank will be an obstruction to the rest of the fixtures in the room. If your aquarium set up is sizeable, then there are safety issues that you need to be mindful of. Children playing around the house may knock into the sharp edges of the tank. People in the house going around may unintentionally chip the edges too. So in preparation for your fish tank set up, try and allocate space that is unobstrucive.

Secondly, there are aquarium items you can place in the aquarium to improve the aquarium deco. Live rocks offer hiding places for small fish. There are pebbles and drift wood that you can also use to make the fish tank look comfortable. Use aquarium plants to add greenery to the fish tank and for fishes to swim around. The green not only helps the fishes to loosen up, but it also attractive to the human eye.

Thirdly, determine on the number of fishes you want in the fish aquarium. You must not put in excessive fishes in one fish aquarium and make the tank too stuffed up. It is definitely not appropriate for the health and wellbeing of the fishes when you put in too many of them in a single tank. One thing for sure,if one of the fishes catches a infection, the rest of the fish will suffer and die soon because they passed on so quickly. The purpose of a aquarium in your room or house is for you to enjoy the view and unwind with the colors and beauty of the fishes. You can’t relax with a congested and congested fish tank.

When you are in the process of setting up your fish aquarium, take note it is common sense most of the time to help you decide on the best option. Alternatively, you may look around just to get ideas onthe way to do a good job. Check out friends who may already have a nice aquarium at home or the office. Take a look at fish forums or aquarium websites for recommendations on how to build the best aquarium. There are publications and books that can certainly help you get an idea on how best to build your fish tank, how much gravel to lay inside the aquarium, which type of filter use and many other tips and information to help you set up the perfect aquariuim. Do not forget to also study the techniques to care for the fish you plan to keep.

Ocean Treasures

Saturday, September 25th, 2010

The ocean contains many treasures. There are some which are discovered while a majority of them are still undiscovered. The ones which are undiscovered hold a great potential for us to exploit.

Fishing has been practiced for over thousands of centuries. Nutritionally, fisheries provide almost 16% of the world’s totally protein. Today 90 million tonnes of fish are caught in the oceans each year.

The commercial fishing industry has not only obtained fish for us to eat but also for making ornaments. There has been a rising trend of aquaculture, for example: fish farming. The marine species can be grown under controlled conditions.

Did you know that sea contains gold four hundred times more than land? There has been mining of sea gold on the coasts of Alaska. If all the gold in the sea were fully exploited then everybody on Earth would have more than 4kgs of gold each.

The bodies of dead sea creatures over the years have decomposed and been compressed under the Earth’s layers; this has given produced oil as a result over thousands of years. Over one fifth of earth’s oil demand is being met with the oil that is coming from sea at the moment. Norway tops the list of the biggest offshore oil producers.

The sea is also not just a large store of oil reserves that can be used to generate power; the tides can be harnessed to meet the earth’s energy needs too. The world’s first energy plant was built in France in River Rance. Tidal energy is eco-friendly and a renewable source of energy that does not harm the environment nor deplete earth’s resources.

We obtain salts from the sea as well. 66 million tonnes of salt is are taken out each year. This amount is equal to three Egyptian pyramids.

Since the seaweeds are a rich source of calcium and minerals they are eaten as veggies in East Asia. They are used as a fertilizer in Ireland as natural manure. And their other uses include thickening the ice-cream, making shampoo, explosives and even toothpaste!

Do business that involves the sea? Check out ourMarine Directory for your needs. Also find out all about our yachts and what it can do for you.
