Doing Bass Fishing
Fishing for big bass with the use of a live bait is actually not really very common practice today as it was about 20 or 30 years ago. But the truth is, you can catch some big sows on live bait. Bass aren’t to particular when it comes to their diet, so there are a wide variety of baits you can use. The advantage of using a live bait in fishing is that nothing can nearly beat the use of anything than with the use of a live bait. The scent is also a very hard thing to imitate.
The best way of using a live bait is by using it in the most unobstructed way that one can possibly do. This then means that sinkers and bobbers are necessary and must be used to get away with the live bait. A light tackle must also be preferred to use for this very important function.
I like to use a medium action rod, with a spinning reel, wound with 8-10 pound mono test. In choosing a hook that will hold and support your bait, it is advisable that you use hooks that are nit bigger then #8 or #10; and a fine wire hook must also be paired with this so that your baits will live much longer. If you also needs a little more weight for your bait, try adding a split shot. A matchstick that will easily fit in the core and paired with a small cork that is as small as your thumb, and which will easily slide will already pass for a bobber, if you need to use one.
The technique of using live bait in fishing is entirely different than the ones being used for ordinary fishing when artificial baits are the ones that are used. Let us say, for example, you are catching crayfish. So, what you would naturally do is hook up the crayfish by using its tail and then cast him really slow from out of the water. And then, you allow the crayfish to swim into the bottom of the water. While your crayfish is swimming along the bottom of the water, a bass will surely come along and try to take your crayfish. As soon as this happens, flip open your bail and let the bass take your bait, the bass suspects nothing because he can’t feel any drag. Then he stops to swallow the crayfish, this is when you close the bail, reel in the slack and set the hook.
Another effective way of fishing is to use a live bait with back - trolling. When it is on its reverse motion, the motor will pull the boat instead of pushing it. So you can go slower which is what you want to do when fishing with live bait. When you throw your bait out there and start trolling, flip your bail and hold your line with your finger. Once you fill the fish take your bait, take your finger off the line and let the fish run with it. When the fish stops to take your bait, you immediately flip your bail; afterwards, you reel in the slack and then you set the hook.Some of my favorite baits to use are: crayfish, leeches, lamprey eels, and grubs. If the lake your fishing holds some trophy bass in it, try some bigger baits like bullheads that are 5 inches long, or bullfrogs, maybe some carp would do the trick. Some of these bigger bass are finicky eaters, however, you can fool them with live bait.
