Proper Maintenance of Your Tropical Fish Tanks
Your pet tropical fish are very much like us human, where we need to have a healthy environment to stay in so that we do not contract diseases as well as falling sick often. Understanding how to properly take care of and maintaining your fish tank is imperative to keeping your fishes healthy! Make it a point to clean the tank at least twice a month to make sure you’re giving your pet fish the best possible environment there is to stay in.

Air Filter
The air filters found inside a fish tank is different from an air pump, where an air pump’s main function is to send water through the air filter, the filter’s job is to help clean waste and debris left by your fish’s waste in the water. Typically, the bigger a tank is the less it is required of you to clean the filters as often, because it have ample space for your bacteria to control each other. Some fishes will even eat those bacteria growth to help control their presence.
As per previously mentioned, you only need to clean your fish tank twice a month, to make sure it’s in a healthy and livable condition for your fish. There are some who suggests that once a month should actually be more than enough, why is that?
This is due to the fact that bacterial growth can be a good thing for your fish and food waste in the water, as they get to degrade it in their most natural form, similar to what you can find in the sea. Thus, if you clean your tank too often, it prevents this from happening, not to mention that your fish have to adapt to a new habitat each and everytime.
That said, there is no harm in cleaning your aquarium if it is really dirty! The aquarium is meant for display and thus a dirty one will do you no good, not to mention that it might even harm your fish!
